It’s a fact: beer makes things better. Add beer to grilling and you’ve got a barbeque. Add beer to 30 folks hanging out in a corn field and you’ve got a party. You get the idea. Now, add beer to your weekly grocery shopping and you have a great new Sunday tradition at Whole Foods.
At Whole Foods in Louisville, Kentucky, you can enjoy a pint of beer while browsing for organic produce and other food items you never knew you couldn’t live without. That’s right- you can DRINK while buying groceries. Eager to give this a try, I ordered a pint of Browning’s Java Stout.
There were eight beers on tap (Kostritzer Oktoberfest; Browning’s Java Stout; Dogfish Head Aprihop; Bell’s Bourbon Barrell Hell Hath No Fury; Bell’s Oberon; BBC American Pale Ale; New Albanian Brewing Company Hoptimus IPA; and Schlafly Kolsch). You can buy a glass, a 32 oz. growler, or a 64 oz. growler of your favorite beer on tap. A pint of the Java Stout was 3.99, but other prices vary.
I’ll be honest; I felt a bit weird strolling around the canned goods aisle while drinking a pint of beer, but it was awesome. I’ve personally never seen anyone drinking in the store, but I didn’t get too many double takes.
The beer wall is located near the deli and cheese section of the store. Once you order a pint, the cashier puts a barcode sticker on the bottom of your glass so you can pay for it when you check out with the rest of your groceries. The best part is….you get to keep the glass! Now I’ve got a nice Guinness glass to add to the collection.
As if I needed one more reason to shop at Whole Foods, the beer wall is a welcomed feature to my weekend errands. What are you waiting for? Go visit the beer wall!
