| Beer pours a deep dark amber with a thick tan head that is fast to dissipate. This beer has a huge coffee smell. There is a small carbonation burn upfront. It's the type of burn you would get from most soft drinks. The upfront taste is sweet and smooth. The after-taste is where I finally get the coffee flavor. The mouthfeel is thin, but the after-taste is thick and stays with me for awhile. This is a good beer and one I wish was more available to the Louisville area. It's no Founders Breakfast Stout, but what is? | |

| I've been on a huge java brew kick lately, but this is my first coffee brown ale. Beer appears to be a dark brown when in the glass, but when held to light a deep, dark ruby/blood color shows through with unexpected clarity. The beer is covered by a two-fingered light khaki head with an aroma full of roast coffee beans and a bit of robust malts. Flavor is very similar to head with the slightest hint of smoke mixing in with the roast coffee beans. Bitter dark chocolate appears in the second half of the beer and couples with the robust coffee flavors to create a slightly bitter back end and aftertaste. Very full-bodied for the lower abv and almost like a dry coffee stout as much as a brown ale. Quality stuff and you could easily have a few pints (cans) of at a time. | |

| Out of a can (!), this beer pours an intensely dark auburn but is by no means opaque; there is a 1.5 finger fluffed-up khaki head that escapes with speed. The aroma is owned by roasted coffee beans and grounds, but the java smell makes a bit of room for sugar and chestnuts to make an appearance in the nose. As expected, the brew leads with a rich Colombian coffee rush through the first half. There's a strongly bitter and somewhat tart note that acts as a pause, and the flavor ends with this bitterness before finishing with a satisfying mocha cappuccino taste. The aftertaste is a melding of the halves. Medium to full-bodied with a creamy, thin mouthfeel and a highly sessionable abv, I'd love to get my hands on a 6-ringer of this stuff. Cheers to Beau for the preview. | |
